Glass Palettes

My newest and favorite glass mixing palette.

7" x 3.5" with 7 long and skinny wells - 3" x 3/4"

I first made this to use with Gouache because you can put the fresh paint on one end and thin to different consistencies as you stretch it out, so to speak.

But then it became clear that it was awesome for two color mixing - with all the between colors in the middle. And, you can hold the mixed color over your work to see it in place.

Pretty soon, it became the only mixing palette I use. It cleans up so easily and it doesn't take much space.

Oddly, I have found that when the gouache dries in it, it does not crack up or fall out, so it rewets very well. Maybe it likes the glass.

This one I love and use all the time along side my big palette. I call it the “Paint Strip”. . .

The measurement is 2″ x 10″ and there are 10 wells that measure 5/8″ x 1.25″ each. These are the same size as the wells on my Studio palette.

I use my Paint Strips in a few ways. . .

I use them to create a series of values of a color.

I use them to put together what I call “project” palettes – gathering and mixing  the colors for a specific flower or landscape painting, for example. And, of course, I can test the colors by holding my Paint Strip over the painting.
