Chicken Licken Check-In

sky

When I was very young, I had a *red* phonograph record (45rpm) that played a catchy, and very scratchy, song about Chicken Licken thinking the sky was falling down because an acorn had fallen on his head. He got all his friends panicked as well, and the bunch of them did run into trouble because they were too distracted by fear.

Once in awhile, I find myself having Chicken Licken moments.

When I do, I take a moment for a “Chicken Licken Check-In”.

Sit down for a minute and look around.

Ask yourself these questions:

Is there any *immediate* threat to your well–being?

Does anything hurt so you can’t stand it?

Is the sky still up where it belongs?

Is there food available so you won’t starve?

Is there a roof over your head?

Are you warm enough?

Can you spot anything around you that  is pretty or makes you smile?

If you were able to answer yes to all these questions, except the first two, you are safe for the moment.

And most moments, you will find, do not contain disaster at all.

When we are worrying and feeling badly about things, they are usually things in the past or the future.

Not always, but most often.

If we get out of the past ok, and refrain from imagining the future, we are in the present, and that is the safest place to be – for the moment.

  1. From “I think I’m going to stop posting blogs” to this. Nope, you don’t have enough to do! Good luck dear!

  2. You continue to inspire me with your creative eye, insightful thoughts, passion and talent for sharing everything …. I remember “finding” you years ago before anyone felt it was “safe” to communicate with strangers. My mother worried about my online following, as she does absolutely everything, to such an extent I stopped telling her anything about you and your adventures (and she stopped asking me every day). My mother (now at 83) is struggling with a number of issues …. a huge problem is anxiety … so I read her “Chicken Licken Check in” and she smiled and said …”I can’t believe you are still involved with that on line person, but I’m glad you are”. So thank you for continuing to be you AND sharing as you evolve …….

  3. Beautiful photo! Shots like this can only be found in desert settings or maybe the beach!
